Show Info by Larry Gollner:
During our session at the Pavillon on the 29th we had a useful informal discussion on Pricing Paintings for sale in our coming show.  Pricing for any artist is a personal issue. An issue based on the artist’s experience and skill, rank in the art market place, and whether the individual artist is a working artist or an amateur that paints for the joy of painting and everywhere in between.  Plenty of guidelines and rules exist on pricing but for us in the VSC here is what you should understand because it will impact on what you receive for a painting you sell in our coming show.

If you believe that one of your painting deserves, assuming it sells, you receiving say $200 you must add the costs of putting it in the show when you price your painting.  The VSC charges a commission of 15%, we are required to pay 7% PST on all sales at our show, and the cost to the artist if the painting is sold by a credit charge transaction a 2.5 +/- % .  So to get the $200 you want in hand after a sale for your painting you need to add $30 for VSC commission, plus $16.10 for PST, plus $6.15 for a credit card charge for a total of $252.25 which I suggest that you round off at $260.
VSC SHOW 2019  - Policy Changes by Maureen Ness:

Framing & Repair
One policy change –purpose - to streamline the intake process, improve the quality of framing & prevent the holdup of the installation of the art show.
FRAMING Policy
Depending on the amount of repair work required members maybe charged up to $20.00 per painting for work on their painting frames that were rejected by the inspection team because they require repairs.  If  this situation occurs on the Friday painting in-take members have the option of having our repair team do the work and pay accordingly or they take their paintings home and do the work themselves. However, Monday at the  final intake paintings/frames that require any significant repair work will be rejected and not be in the show.
Note:  Money collected will be included in the art show revenue.
Demos
One policy change – purpose – to eliminate VSC members selling paintings off the side of the demo table and therefore directly competing with the art show.
·         Policy - Paintings will not be sold at demonstration table while VSC member is doing demos.
Sketches
Two policy changes – purposes –1) to eliminate the VSC art show from participating in any sketches sales during or after the art show – 2) to discontinue using wall space for sketches which frees up more wall space for the paintings in the art show.
·         Policy - VSC members cannot sell their sketches through the VSC art show financial structure.
·         Policy - VSC sketches will be displayed in a binder on the table next to the VSC member biographies.
Hanging & Curation
One policy change – purpose – to streamline time and efforts of the Show Directors to more effectively curate the 2019 VSC art show
·         Policy - After preliminary hanging of all paintings at the art show, the hanging team will respectively be dismissed without exception.  The Show Director/s will then retain two other people to help them with the curation of the art show.
Art Show Refreshments
One policy change – purpose – to eliminate the “Tea House” - to free up our art show, to free up a better art show space for the artists hanging their work there.
·         Policy – There will only be refreshments served on the Opening Night of the VSC Art Show.
Framing Guidelines
Acrylic PaintingsThe General Guidelines apply
If the painting is un-framed, the sides must be painted and have no staples showing; If the sides are less than 1.5” deep, the painting should be framed.
Watercolours and other media. The General Guidelines apply.
The glass and mat must be clean, with the latter snug against the painting. Clips may be used to secure the artwork to the frame, providing enough are used to ensure a snug fit. No glass is required if the art and mat have been fully protected by applying archival quality varnish.
The mat and backing should be acid-free. The mat should have straight cuts and cleanly cut corners. In cases where the medium may drop dust, such as Pastel, place mat spacers between the artwork and the top mat to allow the dust to fall behind it.
If you wish to protect against dust and insects entering the back of the frame attach brown paper to the back of the frame and trim it before attaching the hanging wire.
Revised November 2018
Hi All:
If there are club members for whom installing the hanging hardware would be difficult, they would be welcome to bring their painting, along with the necessary ‘D rings’, screws, and hanging wire to either the Mar 5 or Mar 12 meeting where I will have my tools and be able to assist with the installation.

Cheers,
Rand
