HISTORY CORNER
As many of you know, 2019 is the bicentennial of Queen Victoria’s birth. It so happens that one of our VSC's Charter Members, Lady Sarah Lindley Crease, attended Victoria’s Coronation in 1837. Sarah was the wife of Henry Crease, judge and the first Attorney General of the united Colony of British Columbia, and was knighted in 1896. Sarah was a wonderful artist, and survived (aged 96) until 1922.

CONGRATS!
Oak Bay Village has now installed its new spring banners along the avenue, and for the first time, they're locally designed! On the initiative of the Oak Bay Business Improvement Association, this year’s banners feature scenes designed by local artists who also happen to be Victoria Sketch Club members!
Congratulations to Ann Nolte and Caroline Hunter!
Larry Gollner and Agnes Oosterhof are looking into possible venues for the next VSC Show in March, 2020. On May 24, they attended the opening of the GLN Kindergarten and junior kindergarten classrooms.

Annual For the Love of Africa (FTLOA) Water Garden Tour
by Margaret Bates

Our annual FTLOA Water Garden Tour is now in the throes of planning. We have had such lovely comments about artists in the gardens, and we thank you very much for your support of the Society with the Youth in Tanzania by making these tours are so unique. This year‘s tour date is July 13.

You are all invited to the pre-tour on July 6, which is a convoy tour of all the gardens, with complimentary lunch and an opportunity to see your assigned garden, meet the homeowner and take pictures you are also welcome to have a small display of our cards for sale.

Let me know if you can join us this year, and if you have a preference for time. The tour starts at 9:30 AM and runs to 4:30 PM. But I’m suggesting hours from 10 AM to 1 PM, and 1 PM to 4 PM approximately. Timing is up to you, however. Once I have seen the gardens, I will send a picture of your designated guard.

Please share this with anyone whom you think might be interested in having fun painting in someone’s garden.

Regards,
Margaret
